This year marks the 110th anniversary of the birth of the famous writer Petro Marko. The National Book Center in Tirana has thought of a calendar of activities commemorating the writer and his literature, while the daughter remembers him as a father.

Petro Marko who wrote Hasta La Vista, Night of Ustika, The Pilgrim’s Chuka, The Pirate’s Cave, The Season of Arms, Self-Interview, A Name on Four Streets, The Last City, had carried with him the experience of the coast and the idealism of a leader. This year marks the 110th anniversary of the birth of Petro Marko.

Well-known writer, idealist of the Spanish war and then convicted during the communist regime, Petro Marko recognized success and prison, which left irreversible scars on him and his family. This year, a series of activities are held to remember him and to give dimension to his literature.

Director of the National Book and Reading Center, Alda Bardhyli said: “We have made a calendar of activities to honor this great figure of Albanian letters to make him more present in the public discourse and to talk about what Marko’s literature can bring in the days we live in a different reading to work”.

Director of the National Library Piro Misha stated that Petro Marko is an irreplaceable emblem in Albanian literature. “It is a dimension that we will do our best to give as complete as possible”.

His literature as much as his idealism sometimes became his salvation and sometimes his trap. With his novels, Petro Marko entered the most prominent personalities of Albanian culture who brought true innovations to the Albanian literary tradition. His work radiates conviction and faith born of human love and humanity, even though he was among the most persecuted and tormented personalities.
