41 Works by Ibrahim Kodra to Feature in “The Sea and Music” Exhibition

Forty-one works by renowned Albanian painter Ibrahim Kodra will be presented together for the first time in many years at the “The Sea and Music” exhibition.

The exhibition will open on September 23 at the Bank of Albania.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja announced the exhibition. He said the works, created between 1947 and 1999, tell a story through color, rhythm and symbolism.

Meanwhile, the exhibition will introduce the public to Kodra’s creative world through a carefully selected collection. The display will include paintings, photographs, documents and personal objects belonging to the artist.

“The Sea and Music” will remain open from September 23 to November 23, 2026, at the Bank of Albania. The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports supports the exhibition.

Ibrahim Kodra was born in Likmetaj, Ishëm, in 1918. He died in Milan 20 years ago.

Kodra created around 6,000 works throughout his career. He became one of the most prominent Albanian modernist painters of the second half of the 20th century.

He also became one of the most distinctive figures in Albanian and European modern art. Although he lived outside Albania, Albanian colors and themes remained central to his artistic work.

Critics recognized Kodra as a post-Cubist artist. In 1996, Albania awarded him the title “Honor of the Nation.” A year later, Kodra became Honorary Consul and received a diplomatic passport from the Republic of Albania.
