TIRANA – Republican Congressman Brian Mast introduced an amendment in the U.S. Congress to make Kosovo’s NATO membership a top priority of American foreign policy in the Balkans. The move comes amid increased international scrutiny of regional relations and negotiations.

The amendment calls on the United States to prioritize ambassadorial appointments in Montenegro, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It signals a strong American commitment to the region, reaffirms Kosova’s independence, and outlines concrete steps to support its NATO accession.

Mast’s proposal also encourages Albania and Kosova to strengthen their defense industries and raise national defense spending according to NATO standards. Meanwhile, it urges Serbia to reduce strategic ties with Russia and China.

The amendment emphasizes continued U.S. support for Kosova’s border security. It highlights modern scanning technologies at border checkpoints such as Merdare and stresses that American troop presence remains vital for regional stability.

The proposal now awaits further action in the U.S. legislative process.
