TIRANA, December 22- The European Union Delegation in Albania congratulated Klodian Braho on assuming office as head of Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) on Tuesday.

In a press statement, the delegation praised SPAK for resilience under political pressure. It also highlighted the determination and integrity shown by former chief prosecutor Altin Dumani.

According to the statement, SPAK made progress in the fight against high-level corruption under Dumani’s leadership. In addition, the work strengthened public trust in the justice system.

Meanwhile, the EU Delegation said the fight against corruption and impunity remained a shared responsibility of all key institutions. It added that respect for the rule of law formed a core element of Albania’s path toward European Union membership.

The delegation also noted that the European path enjoyed overwhelming support among Albanian citizens. As a result, it called on all institutions to fully exercise their roles.

In this context, the EU urged institutions to fulfill their responsibilities and cooperate without reservation. It said this cooperation should ensure accountability in the interest of all citizens.

Finally, the delegation said it expected to continue cooperation with SPAK. It reaffirmed support for Albania at every step of its path toward the European Union.
