Nexhmije Pagarusha was born on May 7, 1933, in the village of Pagarusha near Malishevë. She is known as one of the Albanian singers with the most distinctive and powerful voice we have had until now.

“The Queen of Albanian Music,” gained fame in Albania and neighboring countries, thanks to her unique soprano voice. Pagarusha attended music school in Belgrade and began her singing career in 1948, on the waves of Radio Prishtina. She mastered the art of singing for four decades in various genres: folk music, classical, as well as performing in operas.

The song that enjoys the most popularity in her repertoire is “Shepheress” which has been awarded numerous prizes. Pagarusha’s last concert was held in 1984, in Sarajevo.

Nexhmije Pagarusha passed away on February 7, 2020, but continues to be an inspiration for generations after her.
