Traditional dropullite clothing, artisans are taking care to pass down the craft to the younger generations

The area of Dropulli in Gjirokastër is known for its wealth and the inheritance of its traditions for generations. This is conveyed to the young people who know well the popular songs and dances which are always accompanied by traditional clothes that give them charm. The traditional bridal dress of the Lower Dropulli area continues today to be prepared in all its processes from cutting, drawing and embroidery in a completely artisanal way in Dervician.
Kaliroi Diamanti is one of the few women in this area who carefully designs and embroiders the traditional costume of the Derviciani bride. She started this passion by sketching and embroidering next to her mother, who revealed the secrets of this craft.
The 83-year-old craftswoman, Diamanti, also expresses her interest on the part of the younger generations to keep alive the diverse tradition that Dropulli carries where, according to her, everything is a matter of will and desire.
