Emergency intervention in the medieval castle of Lezha

The first phase of surveys has started within the implementation of the project, on the emergency intervention in the part of the northern wall in the medieval castle of Lezha.
The area where the archaeological survey will be carried out is related to the cracks identified, while the survey will serve the restoration of the ancient walls.
Surveys of the field study where the reinforcing and stabilizing intervention on the walls will be carried out, have dimensions of 5×2 m² and maximum depth up to the sole of the possible cultural layers, while the survey will be carried out in the form of a trench and with descending steps.
The segment where the intervention is being carried out, cannot be accessed by mechanical means and the entire archaeological process of the proposed survey will be carried out manually.
DRTK Shkodër is assisting the process by providing its expertise as well as working to clean the proposed area from debris deposits, while in the future the traces of the wall tract and the continuation of the vertical cracks will be evaluated and traced in detail.
