“Revitalization Bonus” brings to light the murals of the Belaj dwelling in Gjirokastër

The Belaj dwelling in the Partizani neighborhood of the city of Gjirokastër is another Cultural Monument of Category I, which has benefited from the program of the Ministry of Culture, “Bonus of Revitalization”.
In addition to the restoration work on its unique architecture, interventions are also being carried out to bring to light the wall paintings on the facade and in the Guest Room, where paintings with special values have been covered for decades by whitewash. They generally present compositions with bird motifs and vases of flowers.
The discovery of a landscape from Istanbul in the 1800s was also a surprise.
Work is also underway to clean and consolidate the decorative ceiling and the decorated friezes of the musandras.
The progress of the restoration works has been closely followed by the specialists of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage.
The complete restoration of the “Belaj Dwelling” and in particular the works of art it contains, as an integral part of it, adds value not only to the dwelling, but for the entire revitalization and development of tourism in the city of Gjirokastër
