Excavations reveal new archaeological findings in the fortress of Bashtova, belonging to the 18th century

Excavations in the Bashtova fortress, located north of the mouth of the Shkumbin river, have revealed new archaeological finds belonging to the Ottoman period of the 18th century. The findings include several pots of different sizes as well as ceramic materials from the same period.

Their discovery was made during the excavations and restoration of the Bashtova castle within the framework of the EU4Culture program.

The Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti announced that these new archaeological findings open new windows on the history of the monument.

In the Bashtova Castle, work is also being done to identify the cultural layers of the monument as well as to control the vertical cracks in its various points.

“Not only further excavations, but also the documentation and study of the materials found will give us more accurate answers regarding these findings”, says Margariti.
