Sound Tunnel, a Bunk’Art of Gjirokastra turned into an underground tourist attraction

Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected “KUBE”today, a special business space in Gjirokastër which is located in the galleries of Jamia e Pazar.
This new space in the heart of the stone city has been transformed into a bookstore-art-museum cafe where cultural activities and artist meetings take place, in the presence of many tourists.
The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, said that this space was restored three years ago, and it has traditionally been a commercial space for both residents and visitors.
Even the Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti clarified that “many of the artistic projects we have supported take place in this place”.
Rama, accompanied by the two ministers, Kumbaro and Margariti, also visited the cold tunnels of Gjirokastra that are connected to the part that goes to Çerçizi Square. The Sound Tunnel, a Bunk’Art of Gjirokastra, dating from the time of the War, has today turned into an underground tourist attraction, interlaced with the acoustic element of iso-polyphony.
Kumbaro said that “this is a Cold War tunnel which resembles the Bunk-Art in Tirana and is so long and passes through the Market, goes under the Castle and exits to the City Hall. It is a bunker which is visited by many tourists”.
