US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State visits Bunk’Art 1: Fascinating! For a bright future, countries must learn from the past

“A fascinating place”. This is the description of the visit to the Bunk’Art 1 museum by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, Ambassador Lisa Johnson.
At the end of the two-day visit to Albania, Johnson chose to go to the Bunk’Art museum, saying that it brings back somber memories and gives the message of why we must all fight to preserve our basic freedoms and human rights. However, she appreciated the support of Albania, which stands by NATO as threats to freedom in Europe continue.
“I am in Albania, at the end of the two-day visit, the last thing we did was visit the Bunk’Art museum. To have a bright future, countries must understand and learn from their past. This is as true in Albania as it is in the United States. But from what I have seen, Albanians have a bright future and stand shoulder to shoulder with us in NATO as we face together new authoritarian threats to freedom in Europe,” said Johnson.

TripAdvisor, the most important website about tourist information in the whole world, has again this year evaluated Bunk’Art 1 and Bunk’Art 2 as the tourist places that have received excellent reviews from travelers around the globe on Tripadvisor during the last 12 months.

Bunk’Art 1 and Bunk’Art 2 are among the most special museums dedicated to the past of the communist system in Albania. A trip back in time for every visitor is Bunk’Art 1, where the rarest stories of that period of suffering are today documented in 106 different rooms of this historical museum.

Among the most interesting labyrinths for every foreign and local visitor and connected to the center of the capital, is Bunk Art 2. Created in the years ’81-’86, inside the secret bunker of the Ministry of the Interior it is the first museum dedicated to the history of security and victims of communist terror.
