A unique boat made of pine wood about of 1872 is exhibited in the Museum of Fier

A unique boat made of pine wood about 150 years ago, when more than half of the territory of our country was a swamp, and which served for the transport of goods and people in the area of Myzeqe and Seman, is exhibited in the pavilion of ethnography in the museum of Fier.Five meters long and 55 cm wide, a boat dating back to 150 years is exhibited in the ethnography pavilion at the Historical Museum of Fier.
Unique in its kind, the boat made of pine wood belongs to the area of Seman, where it was built around 1872, while since 1978 it is part of the museum inventory.
“It originates from the area of Seman, which lies in western Myzeqe and is included by what is called Little Myzeqe, which lies between the river Seman in the north and the river Vjosa in the south,” said the director of the Fier Historical Museum, historian Ilirjan Gjika .
For the director of the Historical Museum in Fier, Ilirjan Gjika, such valuable objects have a great historical importance, as they are rare in the entire mueological space in Albania.
“It is a boat that has been used concretely for the transport of goods in the inland waters of rivers. Before the 1960s, when the reclamation of the Myzeqe field began and with the drying of the swamps, it lost its use. Believe that it may have had a specific function. It could also have been used for fishing in the swamps,” Gjika added.
Divided into five pavilions according to historical periods, the Museum of Fier was opened on July 18, 1978 and since then it has preserved artifacts and works of art of archaeological, cultural and ethnographic importance.(shqiptarja.com)
