Swedish Embassy in Tirana celebrates the National Holiday and the Midsummer Day

Swedish Embassy in Tirana celebrated today the National Holiday and the Midsummer Day. Diplomatic corpse accredited in Tirana, Ambassador Yuri Kim, PM Edi Rama and other top officials participated in this activity.

Ambassador Elsa Håstad delivered a welcoming speech to all the invited guests, thanking them for their participation.

“It’s the first time we’re organizing this activity in Tirana. Today we celebrate the national day of Sweden combined with the Midsummer day which is a celebration of shift between light and darkness. The women and girls collect 7 different flowers on this day and have them under the pillow, dreaming about someone they love. Midsummer is about celebrating love and light and the beauty of nature at this particular time of the year. People dance in a traditional ring, around the Midsummer pole, making friends. We are here to make friends and create relations. National Day is about friendship and relation, that’s what we celebrate tonight,”Ambassador Elsa Håstad said.

“This evening is also about our National Day, about Sweden as a country and I want to tell our friends from Ukraine that this is aslo a moment when we hope for light and peace in Ukraine. Sweden continues with the firm support for Ukraine,”Ambassador Elsa Håstad added.

Midsummer takes place in June and is a celebration of the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. It is one of the most celebrated holiday in Sweden.
