. A request for support and promotion of the film was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora in Kosovo.

“Dear citizens and compatriots, wherever you are in the world. The official voting for the Oscar nominations from the American Film Academy starts tomorrow. The Republic of Kosovo, for the first time is on the shortlist to win a nomination with the extraordinary film HIVE. So we invite you to share this cover of the movie HIVE, to support and promote our movie together towards victory at the Oscars! “Together we can do it”, writes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kosovo.

“Hive” is directed by Blerta Basholli and is inspired by the true story of Fahrije Hoti from Krusha Madhe, who in search of her husband lost during the war in Kosovo, kicks off an agricultural business to ensure the survival of the family .

She begins this engagement by facing a traditionally patriarchal environment where ambition to develop is not viewed favorably. No one and nothing stopped Fahrije in her mission.

Fahrije Hoti became a widow in 1998, when Serb paramilitaries occupied Prizren and Rahovec. The war left nearly 200 widows, making Krusha  Madhe known as the village of war widows.

Breaking the taboos of mentality in her municipality, Fahrija first founded the association “Widow Women” in 2003 for the research of missing persons. Then she started her own business with the conservation of winter crops, which in 2010 was transformed into the company “Krusha”.

She employed 50 women, most of whom remained widows from wartime. Their products not only supplied the domestic market, but also started exporting to Switzerland.

Fahrije Hoti continued her journey from business to politics. In 2008 she was elected an assembly member in the Municipal Assembly of Rahovec from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, for a four-year term. But she quickly left it, devoting herself entirely to business.

The main role is played by Yllka Gashi who plays the role of the Kosovar widow, Fahrije Hoti. Meanwhile, in other roles play Çun Lajçi, Kumrije Hoxha, Aurita Agushi, Kaona Sylejmani, Mal Noah Safçiu, Adriana Matoshi, Astri Kabashi, Molikë Maxhuni, Blerta Ismaili, Valire Haxhijaj Zeneli, Armend Smajli, Ilir Prapashtica, Xhejlane Terbunja, etc..

The film has been awarded numerous prizes including three major awards at the Sundance Film Festival.Meanwhile, in November last year, the movie was awarded the “Die Tilda” prize for “best film” at the International Film Festival in Braunschweig, Germany.

“Hive” is a film, co-production between Kosovo, Switzerland, Albania and North Macedonia. Before this film, the director Blerta Basholli has made several documentaries and short films, among them “Black and White” and “Me and Lena”.
