Statue of Alexander the Great, Justinian coin and other objects unearthed in Bylis

Only a few days of excavations in the ancient city of Bylis have brought to light treasures of the Albanian underground.
The archeological mission led by Neritan Ceka announced the discovery of a large cistern with five subdivisions, which is considered the largest ever discovered in the Southern Balkans.
But the excavations have also brought to light a statue of Alexander the Great, a coin with the portrait of Emperor Justinian as well as a natural temple with inscriptions for prosperity in the long journeys of the inhabitants of that time.
It is thought that the discoveries made so far in Bylis, are only 1/10 of what the underground hides. Archaeologist Neritan Ceka, who leads the unit and the expedition, describing the Hellenic and Roman, as well as Byzantine cultural presence, emphasizes the Illyrianism of the city, the features of the classical comedy theater with 7,500 seats, in particular the surprises that may result after research in ” Episcopal Palace ”and in the Necropolis.
