Rama: Kosova should coordinate with allies, but has the right to implement the Constitution

Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama has underscored that Kosova has its undeniable right to implement the Constitution and implement its laws throughout the territory of the Republic. After the criticism that the US and the EU made to Kosova not to hurry with the decision to remove the Serbian dinar, Rama said that these decisions should be taken in coordination with the allies, but after the tensions in Banjska, there is need for a balance to avoid certain repetitions.

“While we all agree that the government of Kosova should engage, coordinate and work more closely with its key allies, let’s also not forget Kosova’s undeniable right to implement own constitution. After Banjska, it is essential to maintain focus and a sense of balance,” writes Rama on the X platform.

On February 1, the Central Bank of Kosova decided to make effective the prohibition of the Serbian dinar for payments made in Kosova. The Kosovan authorities also closed four Serbian parallel municipalities, in Dragash, Peja, Istog and Klina, over the last weeks, saying that “the only institution of Serbia within the Republic of Kosova will be its embassy in Prishtina”.

These institutions are financed by Serbia and serve the Serbian community in Kosova, while according to the Kosovan law, these institutions are illegal.

These decisions were criticized by the US and the EU, characterizing them as hasty and with the potentiality to increase ethnic tensions in Kosova.
