The fight against Russian and Chinese disinformation, the US special envoy, James Rubin visits Tirana next week

US special envoy and coordinator for the State Department’s Global Engagement Center, James Rubin will visit the South Eastern Europe (SEE) from April 10 to 14.
He’s stopping in Tirana, Podgorica and Shkup/Skopje.
During his stay in Tirana, special envoy Rubin will participate in meetings with US ambassadors from SEE.
The focus of the meetings will be the fight against Russian and Chinese disinformation in undermining the countries’ democracies.
“I want to work with governments that want to be part of the European system and where European principles are respected. We want to try to do everything to eliminate the pollution of the media environment”, he underscored.
According to the US State Department announcement, Rubin will discuss on the vain attempts of Russia, the People’s Republic of China and other malicious actors to use disinformation to undermine democracy and national security around the globe, and how the region’s states can together counter threats in the IT space.
In Podgorica and Shkup/Skopje, Special Envoy Rubin will meet with government officials to strengthen support for counter-disinformation initiatives.
James Rubin has served as the US State Department spokesperson during the NATO Air Campaign against Yugoslavia in 1999.
