Kosova Prime Minister, Kurti meets the leaders of KFOR and EULEX: Freedom of movement must be restored

Kosova Prime Minister, Albin Kurti met this Monday with the commanders of the NATO peacekeeping forces in Kosova, KFOR, and the Head of EULEX, Lars Gunnar Wigemark. Participating in the meeting were also the first deputy prime minister, Besnik Bislimi, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xelal Sveçla.
According to the communiqué issued by Kosova Prime Minister’s Office, “the common conclusion from this meeting is that freedom of movement must be restored and that there should be no barricades on any road”. The meeting also spoke about the actions of criminal structures in the north of the Republic of Kosova, which seriously affect security in the country, and it was emphasized that inter-institutional cooperation will continue, among other things.
Meanwhile, KFOR made the announcement on the Twitter platform that commander of the KFOR mission continues to support the dialogue to find an agreement to reduce tensions in the north of Kosova. He remains in close contact with everyone involved in this process,” the peacekeeping mission said in a statement.
The authorities in Kosova have said that they have the capacity to remove the barricades erected in the north, but that they have given time to the NATO mission, KFOR, to convince the local community to remove them themselves. KFOR has called on all parties involved to “avoid rhetoric or actions that could cause tensions and escalate the situation”, while pointing out that they remain vigilant and fully capable of fulfilling our mandate according to Resolution 1244 of 1999 for all communities in Kosova.
