Kosova-Serbia talks fail, Borrel: Kurti and Vucic bear full responsibility

Kosova and Serbia fail to reach an agreement on the license plate issue. The news was announced by the EU’s High Representative, Josep Borrell, after the emergency meeting held in Brussels between the Prime Minister of Kosova, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.

Borrell announced in a press conference after the meeting that the EU presented a proposal, which was accepted by Vucic, but rejected by Kurti.

“Unfortunately, we do not have an agreement today, as they did not agree on a solution”, Borrell said before the media.

According to him, the leaders of both countries bear full responsibility for the failure of the negotiations, as well as for any escalation of the situation in the North of Kosova.

“Both bear full responsibility for the failure of the talks today, as well as for any escalation, or violence, that may occur on the ground. For the sake of transparency, we presented a proposal that could avoid this dangerous situation, a proposal that President Vucic accepted, while Prime Minister Kurti did not”, said Borell.

The High Representative of the EU emphasized in his speech that he expects Kosova to stop the issue of fines during the next phase, while Serbia stops issuing new license plates.
