Begaj in Slovenia: Cyber attacks, evidence that third actors endanger peace and stability in the Balkans

The summit of the Brdo-Brijuni Process is being held today in Brdo, Slovenia, where the situation in the Western Balkans will be discussed. Present are the Slovenian president Borut Pahor, the president of Albania, Bajram Begaj, the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, of Croatia, Zoran Millanovic, as well as the members of the tripartite presidency of Bosnia, Sefik Xhaferovic, Milorad Dodik and Zhelko Komsic.
In his speech, President Bajram Begaj stated that the expansion of the European Union with the countries of the Western Balkans is a geostrategic issue for security and peace. According to him, the Europeanization of the Western Balkans is seriously threatened by third parties.

President Begaj also spoke about the recent cyber attacks, which he considered as evidence of dangerous threats from third parties to the peace and stability of the region.

“The war in Ukraine is a turning point for the EU’s approach to the integration of the Western Balkans. Russian aggression, peace and security cannot be taken for granted. The war in Ukraine is reshaping the international geo-political and geo-economic scene,” said Begaj, among other things.

The summit of the Brdo-Brijuni Process will focus on the current situation in the Western Balkans and to call on the members and institutions of the European Union to speed up the enlargement process.
