U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard R. Verma to Visit Albania, Kosovo, and Serbia

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard R. Verma, will travel to Albania, Kosovo, and Serbia from January 7-11, according to the U.S. Department of State.  

In Albania, Verma will discuss the country’s democratic progress, defense capabilities, and ways to deepen economic ties between the two nations. He will also express gratitude to the Albanian government for its continued support of Afghan allies.  

In Kosovo, the Deputy Secretary will focus on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia through the EU-facilitated dialogue. Additionally, he will address governance and rule-of-law reforms, economic growth, and energy security.  

During his visit to Serbia, Verma will emphasize the U.S.-Serbia strategic partnership on energy and other economic matters. He will also pledge support for Serbia’s integration into European institutions, the normalization of its relations with Kosovo, strengthening the rule of law, and enhancing bilateral cooperation on military and security issues.  

Through these visits, Verma is expected to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to the Western Balkans as the region pursues Euro-Atlantic integration and deeper regional cooperation.
