Jani Vreto, born on January 14, 1822, in the village of Postenan near Leskovik, was a significant figure in the Albanian national movement. Known as the “Gutenberg of Albania,” he contributed to the publication and spread of national and cultural ideas. Vreto studied in a Greek school near Konitsa and later attended the “Zosimea” gymnasium in Janina. In 1854, he moved to Constantinople, where he connected with prominent Albanian leaders such as Hasan Tahsini, Sami Frashëri, and Pashko Vasa.

In 1877, he became a founding member of the Central Committee for the Protection of Albanian National Rights. In 1878, he published “Apologia,” a work discussing the origins, language, and rights of Albanians. Vreto also played a key role in the creation of the Albanian alphabet and in the founding of the “Shkronja Shqip” Printing Society in 1879. He worked on the periodical “Drita” and contributed to the “Drita” society in Bucharest.

Jani Vreto passed away in 1900 in Athens, leaving a lasting impact on the Albanian national movement and cultural development.
