Nikolla (Kolë) Idromeno, born on August 15, 1860, in Shkodër, remains one of Albania’s most important and versatile artists. A painter, sculptor, architect, engineer, photographer, and musician, Idromeno is considered the father of Albanian realist painting. His masterpiece, “Motra Tone”, is regarded as the “Albanian Mona Lisa.”

Idromeno was the first to introduce cinema to Albania in 1919 and founded the Albanian realist painting school in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His works, including “Autoportret”, “Portreti i Së Shoqes”, and “Dasma Shkodrane”, have been displayed internationally. Idromeno also contributed significantly to architecture, designing over 60 buildings in Shkodër.

His legacy continues to inspire Albanian art and culture, and he is remembered as the “Albanian Da Vinci” for his wide-ranging influence.
