The National Historical Museum commemorated Aleksandër Stavre Drenova, widely known by his pen name Asdreni, on the 77th anniversary of his passing.

The poet, who passed away on December 11, 1947, in Bucharest, used the name Asdreni to sign his works, which were frequently published in renowned periodicals such as Kalendari Kombëtar, Albania, and Drita. Born on April 11, 1872, in Drenova, Korça, he began his secondary education at the local gymnasium. After becoming an orphan, he emigrated to Romania in 1885 but returned to Albania during the years 1889, 1914, and 1937.

Asdreni pursued higher education at the Bucharest Academy of Commerce and later at the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Bucharest, though he did not complete his studies.

He was a key figure in the Albanian community in Romania, serving as its secretary between 1913 and 1925. From 1922 to 1934, he intermittently held the position of secretary at the Albanian Consulate in Bucharest. Notably, Asdreni participated in the pivotal Bucharest meeting on November 5, 1912, where the declaration of Albania’s independence was decided.

His patriotic works, including Betimi mbi flamur (The Oath on the Flag) and other poems, played a vital role in awakening and strengthening national consciousness during the struggle for independence and the early years of the Albanian state.
