One year ago, the esteemed Albanian theater and film actor, Mirush Kabashi, passed away.

Born on April 17, 1948, in Shkodër and raised in Durrës, Kabashi came from a family originally from Gjakova.

With nearly 100 roles in theater and film, Kabashi made an immense contribution to Albanian cinema. He is also regarded as one of the greatest interpreters of Albanian poetry.

In 1970, he graduated in acting from the Higher Institute of Arts in Tirana and began his career at the “Aleksandër Moisiu” Theater in Durrës, where he worked until 1994, also serving as its director from 1991 to 1993. Later, he joined Albanian Television in the Department of Artistic Programs as an ideator and presenter, and from 2002 onwards, he worked at the National Theater. He also taught “Mastery of Acting” at the Academy of Arts from 1985, with intermittent periods.

A prominent figure in theater, his most iconic role was portraying Socrates in “The Last Apology of Socrates,” a performance considered the peak of his artistic career.

Kabashi was awarded titles such as “Honor of the Nation,” “Merited Artist,” and “Great Master of Work.”

In his honor, the Municipality of Tirana has named the theater at the Great Park of the Artificial Lake after Mirush Kabashi. Additional activities are planned today to commemorate his legacy.
