Albanian boxing is in mourning following the passing of Halil Petrela, a well-known athlete from the 1960s.

Born in 1944, Petrela hailed from a patriotic family. He completed his studies at the 7 Nëntori Polytechnic in the electrical department and later attended the Vocational School of Construction.

At the age of 15, he began boxing with the 17 Nëntori sports club, training under the guidance of Master Trainer Ahmet Golemi. From a young age, he was recognized for his talent and strong dedication to the sport. His success came swiftly: he became a two-time national youth champion, and in 1962 and 1963, he was crowned national champion for adults, earning the “Most Technical Boxer” award in 1962. Halil Petrela was also a member of Albania’s National Team.

He will be remembered not only as a gifted athlete but also as a noble individual—a true representative of the esteemed Petrela family of Tirana.
