The National Historical Museum today commemorated the People’s Hero, Dedë Gjo Luli (1840-1915).

Dedë Gjo Luli distinguished himself in the struggle organized by the Albanian League of Prizren for the defense of Hoti and Gruda, territories that, based on the decisions of the Berlin Congress, were to be handed over to Montenegro.

His skills as an organizer and military leader were particularly evident during the 1911 anti-Ottoman uprising. In collaboration with patriotic circles, he presented the Memorandum of Greçë, advocating for the territorial-administrative autonomy of all Albania. Even after the Declaration of Independence, due to the situation created by the Balkan Wars and the unjust decisions of the Conference of Ambassadors in London, Dedë Gjo Luli continued the fight for the protection of the country and national unification.

On September 24, 1915, he was treacherously killed by Serbian-Montenegrin forces in Sheshëz near Orosh.
