August 26 marks the 114th anniversary of the birth of Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, widely known as Mother Teresa. Prime Minister Edi Rama commemorated the occasion with a Facebook post, sharing a photo of the Saint and noting: “Today we celebrate the 114th anniversary of Mother Teresa’s birth, the Albanian Saint who belongs to all of humanity.”

Elisa Spiropali, Speaker of the Assembly, described August 26 as a “magnificent date for Albanians and the world.” She said: “Saint Teresa is the most illustrious Albanian, who, with her compassion for misery, hatred, individualism, and indifference, created a spiritual haven of love, solidarity, and dedication. From the countless and invaluable lessons that Mother Teresa, this wise warrior of peace without violence, left to humanity, today, in this troubled world, threatened by the clouds of war, I choose the profound lesson: We do not need weapons and bombs to bring peace to the world; we need love, mercy, and compassion.”

Mother Teresa, born as Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, the Albanian Nobel Laureate, was born on August 26, 1910, in Skopje. She dedicated her entire life to charity, assisting poor families and the sick and providing human dignity to all.

In 1979, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo. According to a special article by “Radio Vatican,” Gonxhe Bojaxhiu accepted the prize alone, as it would have greatly benefited her impoverished people.

Mother Teresa passed away on September 5, 1997.  She was beatified on October 19, 2003, and canonized as a saint on September 4, 2016, following the recognition of a second miracle by Pope Francis.
