On June 14, 1920, the renowned ethnomusicologist, composer, and researcher Ramadan Sokoli was born in Shkodër.

He completed his basic education in his hometown. From an early age, he excelled in composition, distinguishing himself among the musicians of the time.

His protests against fascism would cost him his freedom, as his hostile stance against the occupier led to his internment in Italy. However, music would become the artist’s oasis in foreign lands. Residing in Florence, Sokoli completed the “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatory with excellent results.

With the departure of fascist forces in 1944, the composer returned to his homeland and became part of the Legaliteti structures. He was arrested following anti-government movements after the Postriba Uprising. After his release from prison, he became involved in musical organizations, moving from the Army Ensemble to the Philharmonic Choir.

He participated in the Festivals of Song and Folk Dance, but his “tainted” biography would penalize his professional progress. His works became a source of inspiration for new generations of artists.

On the occasion of the 104th anniversary of his birth, the University of Arts promoted several of the musicologist’s works: a piano album for four hands and a collection of Ramadan Sokoli’s works for flute, an instrument he studied in Italy. The event was also accompanied by a musical performance by students of the University of Arts.
