Sandër Prosi (1920-1985). Outstanding actor. He was born in Shkodër, on January 6. He attended high school in Tirana. He studied dentistry in Austria (1944-1946), but after two years he stopped and started working in his uncle’s dental clinic in Tirana. Love for the arts later determined the direction of his life.

He was a passionate musician, connoisseur of several instruments (violin, guitar, accordion), where he played in various concerts in Tirana, Shkodër, etc. In 1942, he played the role of Wilhelm Tel in the drama “Wilhelm Tel” of F. Schiller, a play which was banned by the fascist authorities as its approach with the occupation of the country.

Acting naturally became his favorite art. He started working as an actor in the People’s Theater in 1948. He was initially active in second roles and then also in leading roles, mostly positive, heroes or dramatic characters (Dimitrov in ​​”Leipzig Process” 1933, 1955; Zabelin in “Kremlin Clocks”, 1957, by Pogodin), sometimes on the negative side, but problematic and with dilemmas (Vata in “Our Land”, 1954, by Kolë Jakova).

He reached his peak with the complex role of the General in the TV movie “The General of the Dead Army” (1972), according to Kadare’s novel.

His psychological play presented the frustration and boredom of an arriviste soldier as well as the evil goals of an overachieving mission, emphasizing the contrast between self-confidence and boasting, on the one hand, and spiritual decline, disappointment and failure, on the other. Then he successfully played roles of a positive nature, such as Miti in the drama “The Furnace” (1976) by Ruzhdi Pulaha, the musician Miler in “Intrigue and Love ” by F. Schiller (1979), Vuskan Sadria in the drama ” Dawning the year 1945″ (1984) by Teodor Laço, etc.

Sandër Prosi has given a great help in cinematography with 30 roles, main and secondary ones. He started with the role of the school director in the movie “Debatik”, 1961, continued with Abdyl Sharra in “The First Years “, 1965 and in 1968 he played one of his impressive figures, that of the captain in the movies Opened Horizons, The Second November, At the Beginning of Summer, The Stars of the Long Nights, The Path of Letters, The Friendly Hand, where he reflected unforgettable characters he played.

He passed away accidentally on March 24, during the shooting of a new film “Bitter Spring”.

Sandër Prosi holds the title “People’s Artist”.
