The Albanian “Socrates” passed away! The artist beloved by the entire Albanian people, Mirush Kabashi, has closed his eyes forever.
The remarkable daily contributions of the “Honour of the Nation” will be dearly missed, but his legacy and creations will endure as a priceless treasure within the culture of the Albanian nation.
The well-known actor passed away at midnight at the age of 75. The actor’s family shared the sad news through a post on Mirush Kabashi’s social network.
“Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Admirers, It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of MIRUSH KABASHI on Tuesday, December 5, after midnight. Details regarding the day, time of the funeral, and tributes will be communicated to you in the following hours. Sincerely, The Kabashi Family”.
Mirush Kabashi was born on April 17, 1948, in Shkodër and was raised in Durrës. His roots traced back to Gjakova. Kabashi notably portrayed approximately 100 roles in theater and films. Moreover, he frequently served as the host for various artistic events and activities.
Kabashi has been recognized as one of the most exceptional interpreters of poetry in Albania, and he has made substantial contributions to Albanian filmography.
A significant part of his life was dedicated to the theater, where he portrayed diverse roles. One of his most notable portrayals was that of Socrates in “The Last Apology of Socrates.” The role of Socrates is considered by many as Kabashi’s artistic pinnacle, showcasing his interpretative prowess at truly commendable and internationally competitive levels.
Mirush Kabashi was distinguished by his interpretive skills and emotional depth in portraying roles. His performances were marked by originality, elegance, and the portrayal of characters that were both inspiring and notably diverse. Each character, chosen with wisdom and intuition, showcased Kabashi’s ability to excel in a range of roles, from satirical to comic, demonstrating his versatility as an actor.
The passion for acting emerged in the artist during his childhood. “I remember enjoying theater performances and movies in my early years. Looking back now, I smile when recalling how I watched a film like Hamlet more than 15 times, in various settings, whether in summer or winter cinemas. I always had a desire to watch films, admire the artists, and engage in discussions about their work. Eventually, getting closer to acting became an opportunity,” the actor revealed in an interview with the media.
At the National Festival of Professional Theaters in 1989, Mirush Kabashi was honored as the “Best Actor” for his portrayal of Sadush Neziri in the comedy “The Shadow of the Other” by Ruzhdi Pulaha. His performance in this role also earned him recognition at the Balkan Theater Festival held in Corinth, Greece, where he was acknowledged as one of the finest actors. Additionally, in 2002, he received the “Best Actor” award at the Acting Festival “Apollon 2002” for his role as Noka in Ilir Bezhani’s comedy “How Well He Died.”
In 1997, during the ninth edition of the Experimental Theater Festival held in Cairo, Egypt, Mirush Kabashi received the prestigious “Golden Sphinx” award. He was recognized as the most outstanding performer among one thousand participating actors from forty-six countries worldwide.
