On August 31, 1935, in Paris, the versatile artist Maks Velo was born, who through his life journey pursued careers as a painter, researcher, architect, and writer.

He spent his childhood in Korça. After completing high school, Maks commenced his studies in the field of Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute. He later specialized in architecture. In 1960, he participated to the initial design efforts undertaken in Tirana, subsequently joining the city’s design bureau. The years 1978 and 1979 marked the most challenging period of his life when he was arrested and subsequently sentenced to 10 years in prison.

He endured his sentence in prisons during the communist regime, and a portion of his creative work is dedicated to the concept of freedom within the dictatorship. In recent years, he has been actively engaged in discussions concerning the governance of public spaces through his contributions in publicist articles and numerous other activities.

Velo authored a series of publications, including works such as “The Haircut,” “The Prison Coat,” “The Prison Bag,” “Parallel for Architecture,” “Anti-sign Time,” “Democracy Concreting,” “Investigation,” “Spaçi,” “My Life in Pictures,” “Karavasta Club,” “Translator,” “Parallel Life,” and more.
