Today is the 5th death anniversary of the Albanian outstanding Tenor Gaqo Çako. 

Gaqo Cako is among the great names of the pantheon of Albanian music, also represented by Ramiz Kovaçi, Mentor Xhemali, etc. Between 1957 and 1961, he studied at the “Tchaikovsky” conservatory in Moscow under the direction of pedagogue Anna Soloviova. After returning to Albania in 1961, he was appointed permanent tenor of the Opera and Ballet Theater of Tirana, where he performed many of the first roles of the opera repertoire, thus becoming the main tenor for three decades in a row.

His rich experience and career in the operas “Traviata”, “Bohema”, “Rigoleto”, “Norma”, etc., as well as the Albanian operas “Mrika” by Prenk Jakovo, “The Flower of Memory” by Kristo Kono, “Spring ” by Tish Daisa, “Heroina” by Vangjo Nova, “Scanderbeg” by Prenk Jakova and “Scanderbeg” by Abdulla Grimci, “Commissar” by Nikolla Zoraq, “Awakening” by Tonin Harap, “Our land” by Pjetër Gac, etc. , make his career great.

He was also quite well-known in the Italian scenes, where he graduated from the conservatory of Santa Cecilia. His voice has become an object of pleasure wherever he was heard and appeared, in the opera, on television, on the radio, in large or small concert halls. His involvement in all kinds of vocal music has had the sole purpose of entertaining the listeners with the parts he sings. Although he had the greatest value in the interpretations of operatic roles, he was popularized through singing, especially those of Radio Festivals.
