Today marks the 27th anniversary of Serbia’s second assault on the family of the legendary commander Adem Jashari in Prekaz.  

In the early hours of January 22, 1998, Serbian police forces advanced from the Hunting Ammunition Factory, located approximately 500 meters from the Jashari family homes, and launched a coordinated attack on the Jashari Tower using a variety of weapons.  

Since Adem Jashari was not at home that night, resistance to the Serbian assault was led by Shaban and Hamza Jashari, along with other family members, including their nieces and nephews.  

The third and most devastating attack on the Jashari family occurred on March 5, 1998. After a three-day siege,59 members of the Jashari family, including Commander Adem Jashari, heroically gave their lives in defense of their homeland.  

This tragic yet heroic episode remains a powerful symbol of Kosovo’s struggle for freedom and independence.
