Rutte: Monitoring Kosovo Elections to Safeguard Regional Stability

NATO is closely monitoring Kosovo’s electoral process to ensure that no issues arise which could lead to destabilization or new tensions in the region. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that the alliance is committed to preventing any threats to stability, particularly with the upcoming elections in Kosovo on February 9, which will elect a new government.

During a meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the European Parliament in Brussels, Rutte stated that NATO is in constant communication with authorities in both Kosovo and Serbia to ensure the electoral process proceeds smoothly and without tension.

“We are in contact with Kosovo and Serbia to make sure the upcoming elections in Kosovo this February do not result in destabilization. This is crucial. In the Western Balkans, we must remain deeply engaged, as this is a key area for us,” said Rutte.

He also highlighted that stability in the Western Balkans is vital for NATO’s security interests, and the alliance will not allow any security vacuum, either in Kosovo or Bosnia and Herzegovina. Rutte further stressed the importance of close cooperation between NATO and the European Union to reinforce stability and preserve peace in this strategically important region.
