Incidents in the North, a “Wake-Up Call”: NATO Calls for Increased Troop Presence in Kosovo

NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly, in its annual report, has raised concerns about significant risks in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina if the EU and NATO do not increase their engagement in the region.
The report describes recent incidents in northern Kosovo as a “wake-up call” for the international community, calling for the urgent deployment of additional NATO troops.
Lord Mark Lancaster of the UK, the author of the report, stated, “NATO’s presence in Kosovo should be reinforced in light of developments on the ground and in the region.”
The report highlights that increasing NATO troop numbers in Kosovo should be a top priority for allies. “In addition to preventing violence, this measure would help build trust among all communities in Kosovo,” it added.
It also identifies the unresolved normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia as the region’s most pressing challenge. The report calls on NATO and the EU to intensify pressure on both sides to fully implement the Ohrid Agreement.
