Italian President, Mattarella: External Intervention Risk in the Balkans Remains High

Italian President Sergio Mattarella praised KFOR’s commitment in Kosovo during a ceremony honoring the Italian contingents involved in international operations. He underscored that, despite external challenges and a tense climate, KFOR’s mission has been crucial in maintaining peace and facilitating dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
Mattarella also warned of the high risk of external intervention in the Balkans, emphasizing that without KFOR’s presence, the situation could have deteriorated further. He pointed out that the region’s EU integration requires stability and noted that, without KFOR’s efforts, violence could have devastated Kosovo in recent years.
Expressing gratitude for KFOR’s achievements, Mattarella acknowledged the significant contribution of the Armed Forces to national security. Reflecting on the 25-year mission, he highlighted KFOR’s irreplaceable role in preserving stability and preventing violence in Kosovo. He praised the professionalism and sense of duty shown by the troops, despite the complex local tensions.
