Historic Partnership: Kosovo to Establish First Public Ammunition Plant with Turkish Expertise

The Government of Kosovo has signed a landmark agreement with the Turkish state-owned defense manufacturer Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi (MKE) to establish an operational ammunition factory in Kosovo. The facility will produce a range of NATO-standard ammunition calibers, marking a significant step in strengthening Kosovo’s defense capabilities.
The agreement also includes provisions for staff training, equipment maintenance, and the installation of quality testing and calibration systems. Once operational, the factory will operate as a publicly-owned enterprise and a 100% local brand of the Republic of Kosovo.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti welcomed the collaboration, highlighting Kosovo’s growing partnership with Turkey in defense. “We have conducted joint exercises with the Turkish military, acquired Turkish-made equipment, and now it is time to produce together on our own soil,” Kurti stated during a meeting with the MKE delegation held prior to the signing ceremony.
