European Council President, Costa: Western Balkans Integration is the Most Important Geopolitical Investment

European Council President Antonio Costa declared today that the enlargement of the Western Balkans is the EU’s most important geopolitical investment.
“The leaders of the 27 EU member states and the Western Balkans will meet again on December 18 in Brussels,” he confirmed.
“The future of the Western Balkans lies in the EU,” Costa said in a video on X ahead of the upcoming regional leaders’ summit on Wednesday.
“The EU is serious about its commitments; they are not mere words,” he emphasized.
“We are investing in peace and prosperity for the people of the Western Balkans,” Costa added.
“We are investing in our shared future. In these uncertain times, EU and Western Balkans leaders must work together more than ever,” he stressed.
Prime Minister Edi Rama will also participate in the summit, alongside other regional leaders and their 27 EU counterparts. This will be the first summit chaired by the new European Council President, Antonio Costa, and the new Enlargement Commissioner, Olivér Várhelyi.
