Osmani Highlights Rugova and Jashari’s Legacy in Strengthening Kosovo’s Statehood

In her annual address to the Kosovo Assembly, President Vjosa Osmani paid tribute to two key figures in the nation’s history: President Ibrahim Rugova and Commander Adem Jashari.
“Today, we honor the vision of our founding father, Ibrahim Rugova, and the immense sacrifice of Commander Adem Jashari and the Kosovo Liberation Army,” Osmani stated. “The values of truth, justice, and human dignity are the foundation of our state and will guide our future.”
Osmani emphasized the importance of “constitutional patriotism” to unite beyond political divisions, ensuring the strength of Kosovo’s institutions. She reaffirmed Kosovo’s commitment to its constitution, the most advanced in Europe regarding human and minority rights.
Reflecting on the struggles for independence, Osmani acknowledged the heavy sacrifices made, including the loss of innocent lives. “The combined vision of Rugova and Jashari, through the KLA’s liberation struggle and state-building efforts, established a foundation strong enough to withstand any challenge,” she concluded.
