Kosova-North Macedonia Joint Government Meeting; Historic Step Toward Regional Cooperation

North Macedonia’s new government holds its first-ever meeting outside its borders today in Prishtina, joining Kosova’s government, led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

Government spokesperson Venera Azizi hailed the session as a major milestone in strengthening ties between the two countries, setting a model for fostering a more integrated and developed region.

“The agenda includes concrete agreements aimed at improving the lives of our citizens. This reflects our vision for a brighter future for the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Kosova,” she said in a social media post.

Ahead of the meeting, Kosova’s government approved several initiatives, including a protocol for implementing agreements on joint border crossing points at Hani i Elezit-Bllaca and Glloboçica-Jazhinca, as well as a memorandum of understanding in the energy sector.

Joint cross-border points aim to streamline movement for citizens and businesses of both countries, enhancing cross-border connectivity and economic interaction. The energy agreement addresses the challenges of energy transition and the ongoing energy crisis in the region, marking a step forward in sustainable collaboration.

The joint government session commenced with the signing of bilateral agreements and a joint press conference by Kurti and Mickoski.

The last joint session between the two governments was held on September 16, 2021, in Skopje under then-Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, during which 11 agreements were signed across various sectors.
