July 3, 2024, to be declared a national day of mourning in honor of Kadare, the giant of Albanian letters

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, in accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo, has decided that Wednesday, July 3, 2024, will be declared a national day of mourning in honor of the giant of Albanian letters, the globally renowned Albanian writer, the late Ismail Kadare.
“The day of mourning will be observed throughout Wednesday, the day when the late Ismail Kadare will also be laid to rest, while the State Protocol is tasked with taking all necessary actions to implement this decision,” the announcement reads.
Last June, President Osmani decorated writer Ismail Kadare with the “Hasan Prishtina” Order, one of the highest honors bestowed by the Republic of Kosovo on distinguished personalities of the nation. Meanwhile, in August, the President issued a decree granting world-renowned Albanian writer Ismail Kadare citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo.
On July 1, 2024, writer Ismail Kadare passed away. The colossus of Albanian letters closed his eyes forever this Monday.
