EU Envoy Miroslav Lajcak Discusses Kosova-Serbia Dialogue Steps in Prishtina

After meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi in Prishtina, EU envoy Miroslav Lajcak discussed the concrete steps needed in the Kosova-Serbia dialogue.

“The focus of my visit to Prishtina and Belgrade is to discuss the concrete steps we will take in the normalization process. We have an agreement and need to accelerate its implementation,” Lajcak stated.

Regarding the potential lifting of EU measures against Kosova, Lajcak mentioned that the decision depends on the outcome of today’s discussions among member states following Borrell’s report submission.

“I made my stance on the measures clear and public back in September, recommending that they be lifted after the Banjska attack as a gesture of solidarity from the European Union. I have reiterated this to the member states multiple times,” Lajcak explained.

When asked about possible measures against Serbia following the Banjska attack, Lajcak said such decisions are made by the member states.

“The European Union is very serious about holding all involved accountable, and this is on the agenda of the EU dialogue with Serbia,” he added.

On the issue of opening the Ibër Bridge, Lajcak emphasized that it should be opened in a way that does not escalate the situation on the ground.

Bislimi reiterated that Serbia continually breaches the agreement, while Kosova remains constructive in dialogue and committed to full normalization and mutual recognition.

Lajcak, who was set to begin his term as ambassador to Switzerland on September 1, announced he will remain as the dialogue mediator until the end of January 2025.
