Measures lifting against Kosovo/ Stano: No specific date, avoid speculation

The European Union has not yet submitted its report on the possibility of lifting measures against Kosovo to member states.

However, EU spokesperson Peter Stano stated there is no precise timeline for this, and he declined to speculate on the report’s content, which some officials in Pristina have hinted will be positive.

“This is an institutional matter between EU member states and high representatives. Therefore, it is not appropriate for external parties to speculate on the content and timelines. It will happen when deemed suitable for the High Representative and member states. The report’s content will first be clarified for member states to review and discuss, followed by necessary decisions. Once this occurs, we will inform our counterparts in Kosovo,” clarified Stano.

There is a possibility the report may be submitted mid-week, but this has not been confirmed.

Only after the report is submitted can member states continue discussions on potentially lifting measures imposed in June 2023.

Ambassadors from EU member states debated for the first time at the end of April conditions for lifting measures against Kosovo. At that time, the majority felt conditions were ripe for their removal, with the only uncertainty being whether measures should be lifted completely or gradually.
