Kosovo outside the EU accession agenda, Hasani: Historic opportunity lost, fulfill promises

The Foreign Minister, Igli Hasani, has described Kosovo’s exclusion from the EU accession agenda as a historic missed opportunity. Minister Hasani said that Kosovo must swiftly fulfill its commitments so that its accession can be included in the EU’s upcoming meeting.
“The failure to decide on Kosovo’s accession at today’s meeting of the Council of Europe is a historic missed opportunity for Kosovo to have a deserved place at the table and a stronger voice in shaping a united and democratic Europe.
It is necessary for the government of Kosovo to act swiftly to fulfill the commitments it has made and to engage constructively with its international partners and supporters. This should be followed by collective efforts to ensure that another Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe is held in the near future. We all need to act quickly to fulfill what we owe to the people of Kosovo,” Hasani writes on Facebook.
The Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Council of Europe are meeting today (May 17) in Strasbourg, but Kosovo’s acceptance into this mechanism is not part of the agenda.
This happened due to Kosovo’s failure to meet the requirements regarding the establishment of the Association for the Serbian community in the north, where it was announced a day earlier that it would submit a draft statute for the establishment of the Association to the Constitutional Court for review at the end of May.
The Association of Serb-majority Municipalities was set as a condition for Kosovo’s accession to the Council of Europe.
