KFOR Commander: Kosova Security Stable Yet Fragile

KFOR Commander in Kosova, Major General Ozkan Ulutash addressed the stability of Kosova’s security, describing it as stable but fragile. According to KosovaPress, He emphasized the readiness of the 4600 troops from 28 NATO member and partner countries to respond to any challenge.

While not directly addressing Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s previous request for additional troops, General Ulutash mentioned the potential reconsideration of troop dislocation based on the evolving situation.

“NATO continuously reviews its stance, prepared to adjust it as needed. Following last year’s violence, NATO deployed an additional 1000 reserve troops in Kosova. We stand ready to address potential challenges and adjust our stance accordingly, in line with our UN mandate,” KFOR Commander underscored.

Regarding warnings of escalating tensions in farthest north Kosova from the foreign intelligence agencies, the KFOR Commander affirmed readiness to tackle any challenge.

“We are well-equipped and prepared to handle any situation affecting security. Operating as the third security responder, after the Kosova Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), we closely coordinate our efforts,” emphasized Ulutas.

Regarding Serbian military bases along the border and allegations of training individuals to attack Kosova, efforts to prevent escalation will persist.

“We closely monitor developments that may affect Kosovo’s security and regional stability. We remain committed to preventing escalation and stand ready to respond to challenges, adjusting our stance as necessary and maintaining close cooperation with local authorities and international partners,” stated the KFOR Commander.

While seeking accountability for the Banjska terrorist act, the KFOR Commander indicated they did not have any investigations in regards.

“NATO continues to seek accountability for past violent attacks and urges legal investigations to establish facts and bring perpetrators to justice,” Ulutash added.

Major General Ulutash also underlined the importance of communication with the Serbian Armed Forces to identify early signs of potential tension.
