Transitional period ends, Euro is the only currency for transactions in Kosova

On Saturday, the transitional period regarding the dinar issue at the Central Bank of Kosovo came to an end. From Saturday onwards, measures will be taken against those who use currencies other than the euro for cash transactions in Kosovo.
Saturday marked the conclusive day of this transitional period at the Central Bank, with no punitive actions taken but rather information provided to citizens about the implementation of regulations for cash payments.
Furthermore, commercial banks operating in Kosovo have been instructed to establish new branches in the northern region.
Effective from May 12th, all cash transactions within Kosovo must be conducted exclusively in euros.
According to the CBK regulation, quoted by RTK, “Other currencies besides the euro can be used in the Republic of Kosovo for storage in physical form or in non-euro currency bank accounts, for international payments in non-euro currencies, and for currency exchange activities.”
Implementing this regulation, particularly in the northern part of the country, is anticipated to pose challenges.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti, when asked earlier about the conclusion of the transitional phase, emphasized that it is the Central Bank, not the executive that make decisions on such matters.
