American Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, reacted yesterday regarding security in Kosovo, the country’s aspirations to join NATO, as well as other political and economic issues crucial to Kosovo.

Ambassador Hovenier emphasizes that Kosovo has strong security guarantees from the United States and that citizens should not be concerned about threats from Serbia. He also underscores the commitment of the USA to Kosovo’s security and values NATO’s presence in the country as an effective defensive force.

“I can only say that our commitment to the security of Kosovo, the security guarantees given by the United States, remain as strong. And we don’t lose sleep at night worrying about that threat, because we believe that NATO is prepared and ready”, declared Hovenier

Regarding Kosovo’s aspirations for NATO membership, the ambassador expresses support from the United States and anticipates Kosovo becoming a full member of the alliance in the future.

“Kosovo aligns very well with NATO in terms of values and institutions. So it’s more about solving these other challenges and moving forward. We expect that one day Kosovo will be a full member of NATO”, said Hovenier.

He also comments on comparisons made between Serbia and Kosovo regarding NATO membership, stating that Kosovo is on the right path to meeting the criteria for membership.

Regarding the issue of the dinar in Kosovo and the opposition of the United States and the EU to the regulation of the Central Bank of Kosovo, Hovenier states that it is important to change the way this regulation is implemented, including addressing the negative impact on the Serbian population in Kosovo.
