Lajcak: Kosova and Serbia should implement the agreements reached

The Special Envoy of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, demanded that Prishtina and Belgrade implement the basic agreement reached a year ago between the parties.

According to Lajcak, the implementation of this agreement is in the interest of both countries to make progress.

“We have discussed a long list of issues. And the most important is the implementation of the Basic Agreement reached and it is in everyone’s interest to make progress in the implementation of this agreement. This is the best agreement we could reach. If there was a better agreement, we would have done it, so it is in everyone’s interest to implement it, because in this agreement we have all the answers, what to do and how to do it. The only question is when the implementation will happen. We have spent a lot of time to take steps and there is fear on both sides of what I will do and what the other side will do. But I believe that these issues can be resolved very simply,” Lajcak said after the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, Besnik Bislimi in Prishtina.

Regarding the removal of the dinar, which again strained relations between Kosova and Serbia, Lajcak said that he will hold a meeting between the chief negotiators in Brussels.

“We also discussed the issue of payments, which is a relevant part of the dialogue. There are several answers that need to be analyzed, but this is a process. We must be sure that citizens are not negatively affected by the new Kosova Central Bank regulation. But there are some questions that go beyond the mandate of these experts and we have discussed these issues with Bislimi. Our communication will continue and I plan to organize a new meeting of chief-negotiators in the coming days,” said Lajcak.
