The US envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar will travel this week to Kosova to meet with leaders regarding the Kosova Central Bank decision on the Serbian dinar and the dialogue between Prishtina and Belgrade.

From March 10 to March 18, the US emissary has planned visits to Belgium, Kosova, Austria and Montenegro.

“His visit will re-emphasize the commitment of the US to the countries of the Western Balkans, which aim at Euro-Atlantic integration and a deeper regional cooperation,” says the US State Department.

Escobar’s visit to Prishtina comes at a moment of tension between the US officials and the leaders of Kosova after the decision taken by the Kosova Central Bank to ban the use of the Serbian dinar from February 1.

A month before, the US emissary said that the Government of Kosova is not treating the US as a partner, due to not listening to the American request on the issue of the Serbian dinar.
